Personal trainers and fitness instructors will continue to tell you that getting enough protein into your diet is key to achieving your fitness goals. But what does that really mean?
In a nutshell, protein is needed in the body to repair muscle after exercise. Your glycogen levels deplete after training and the best way to replenish that is through consuming carbohydrates, natural sugars and protein. Therefore it is best to eat a high protein, high carb snack or meal between 30 minutes to 1 hour after exercise. Simple enough right?
But if you’re like the rest of us and have a super busy schedule with no time to stop and think about eating exactly 30 minutes to 1 hour after exercise, you need to get into the protein ball craze.
We’ve all heard of energy balls that use porridge oats, seeds and nuts. Protein balls are similar, with the added extra of whey, egg white, pea or rice protein. The fact that they are made with a few select ingredients means they are great as an all-natural, healthy snack to replenish your body with protein and carbs.
One brand that puts the “Rock ‘n’ Roll” into protein balls is British company, The Protein Ball Co. Their nutritious and delicious protein balls are gluten free, wheat free, vegetarian and contain no soy, GMO’s or added sugars. They also have two vegan friendly flavours as well.
The base to their protein balls is dates and the few other ingredients vary depending on which flavour it is, but often include fruits and nuts. Due to the natural high sugars in their protein balls, they can also be consumed as a pre-workout around 30 minutes before exercise to act as an energy booster, instead of some of the unnatural pre workout shakes and supplements.
Having six small balls in one packet means they are a convenient on-the-go protein snack, ideal for health conscious, fitness enthusiasts and people who just want to boost their daily protein intake.
The Protein Ball Co has six unique flavours and they allow customers to ‘chose their protein’ to suit your needs/diets by using three clean protein sources; Whey, Egg White and Pea & Rice protein. Their flavours are:
● Peanut Butter (Whey protein)
● Coconut + Macadamia (Whey protein)
● Cacao + Orange (Whey protein)
● Lemon + Pistachio (Vegan protein)
● Goji + Coconut (Vegan protein)
● Cherry + Almond (Egg-white protein)
We’ve previously featured the delicious goji and coconut flavour in a past SourcedBox and have since had our subscribers begging to try another flavour. So, true to our word, August’s box features lemon and pistachio (a team fave!). Now that you know just how great these little balls of goodness are for on the go snacking and post or pre workout snacking, we want to see how you eat yours. Post a pic on social and tag @sourcedbox.
